Artificial intelligence is transforming the world and is easily accessible to everyone through both free and paid services provided by leading technology companies and startups. Google is actively involved in this revolution, being a major player in the field. In 2023, the company introduced Bard, a chatbot utilizing large-scale language models (LLM) and more recently, launched Duet AI.
Duet AI is a machine learning AI tool integrated into Google Workspace apps like Gmail, Google Drive, and Spreadsheets to enhance productivity and creativity for professional tasks.
This article will demonstrate how to utilize Duet AI and provide a detailed guide on enabling the assistant in the Google Admin console. Additionally, it will showcase various applications of artificial intelligence within Google Workspace.

What does Google Workspace Duet AI refer to?
Duet AI, created by Google, is an advanced artificial intelligence tool embedded in Google Workspace applications. It utilizes a sophisticated machine learning system honed over time to assist with tasks like composing emails, generating text, and visualizing images based on descriptions.
Think of Duet AI as a constant companion offering assistance with various tasks, like providing inspiration for text creation and suggesting worksheet layouts.
By utilizing this technology, you can enhance the pace of work processes and utilize an assistant to respond to emails, create presentations, and more. Later on, we will explore some instances of employing Duet AI in experiments conducted by me.
What is the price of Duet AI?
Duet AI is a service exclusive to Google Workspace subscribers, available for an extra fee.
Duet AI is currently priced at R$ 139.19 per month per user under the annual commitment plan. Users can try the software for free for either 14 or 30 days before making any payments.
You can choose to enable Duet AI for specific users within your company or organization, even if you are a Google Workspace subscriber with multiple active users.
The service can be terminated at any point, and the payment is based on the number of days it was active, similar to the regular Google Workspace offerings.

How to activate Duet AI within the Google Admin panel
To access Duet AI, you must have a Google Workspace subscription. If you do not have an account yet, you can sign up here. Alternatively, follow the steps to subscribe to the service and benefit from a 10% discount coupon for the first year.
The initial step to activate Duet AI is to log in to the Google Admin control panel.
Click on Billing on the panel’s homepage, then select Access additional services from the left menu. Alternatively, you can click on the highlighted Duet AI ad on the right side of the page if you see it.
Choose the Duet AI feature for Google Workspace in the “More Services” section and click on the “Let’s start” button.
Clicking the Next button will advance you to the service details page in the Duet AI purchase window, where the main features of the tool are briefly described.

In the second phase, you need to choose a payment plan. The Flexible Plan, which includes monthly payments and the ability to cancel at any time, is available for R$ 208.80 per user per month.
The yearly Plan choice provides a savings of around 33% and allows for monthly installments, with the condition of keeping the subscription for a minimum of one year. Consequently, the monthly cost decreases to R$ 139.19 per user.
Click the Prosecute button after selecting the payment plan to proceed to the final stage of the subscription.
The payment page shows a summary of the order, including an annual commitment option that offers a 33% discount and 30 free days, with the first payment due 30 days after order confirmation.
To complete the purchase, simply select the Order button. Following this, the Google Workspace admin needs to designate which users will be able to use Duet AI, either through automatic or manual selection.
You will be guided to the active users list of Google Workspace if you choose manual selection. From there, select the user you wish to activate Duet AI for by clicking on their profile.
After you open the user page, find the Licenses section, and select the Duet AI option. You will then see the option to allocate the license. Turn on Duet AI and save your changes.
Using Duet AI: A guide
Duet AI is currently exclusive to English, but Google intends to broaden its language capabilities in the future.
To begin using Duet AI, you must go to the Google Workspace user page and switch the language to English. Users can do this themselves, without needing to be account administrators. The user page’s default address is https://myaccount.google.com/personal-info.
Find the General Web Preferences option on this page and select Language.

After activating the service and adjusting the language, simply open any document in Google’s format, like Documents, Sheets, or Presentations, to see the wizard.
Using Duet AI within Google Documents (Docs)
Shortly after initiating a new text file in the Documents application, the initial prompt shown in the document is the Help me write balloon.
Click on the balloon, then provide an English command or description to request assistance with writing a text on any subject.
I requested assistance from Duet AI for my first trial, where I sought help in drafting a guide on setting up a website with Google Sites. The AI promptly provided a text suggestion, allowing me to adjust it as needed before incorporating it into the document.

I agreed with the first recommendation and the text was added to the document, allowing me to edit it as I pleased.
I provided a clue on the language question by using the built-in Google Documents feature to translate the text into Portuguese.
A Portuguese version of the document was created, resulting in this.
I thought the outcome was impressive, given that the content was generated and translated by Duet AI. Now I can make edits to the text in Portuguese.
Utilizing Duet AI within Google Slides
Duet AI enables the creation of AI-generated images in Google Presentations, and various tests will be conducted.
I requested that the assistant generate photo-like images of a packed auditorium with a speaker on the stage. The outcome was as follows:
In the second trial, I requested the assistant to create pictures of little dogs seeking food. The outcome was very impressive, although it wasn’t precisely what I had envisioned.
Some suggested variations from the AI, while not in line with the prompt, impress me with their detailed and realistic portrayal, like the example of the dogs provided.
I requested a colorful abstract background image in a different test, and this is what I received.
Each command provides different options to choose from. Additionally, there is a range of predefined styles available, such as photography, vectors, and backgrounds.

Utilizing Duet AI within Google Sheets for a wedding.
Duet AI is currently unable to interact with existing data in Google Sheets but will soon have this capability. For now, users can only request the creation of data templates. Time to begin testing.
During my initial interaction, I requested the wizard to generate a spreadsheet for managing a website development project. The outcome was intriguing yet basic. Following its creation, you have the option to either incorporate the AI-generated model or dismiss it, with no current capability to further enhance the recommendation.
In the second trial, I requested Duet AI to generate a travel spreadsheet for Iceland, which turned out to be more intricate compared to the initial try.
Not all requests are fulfilled since the tool is still in the development stage. In the third try, when asked to generate a spreadsheet for managing a transport company’s finances, the tool did not provide any suggestions and prompted a request for a change.
Using Duet AI within Gmail
Duet AI can be connected to company Gmail and functions as a helpful tool for composing emails. The suggested text provided by the tool appears to serve as a basis rather than the complete email, particularly considering the varying tones used by individuals.

Is it worthwhile to subscribe to the Duet AI service?

The tool is still being developed and some content generated may not meet expectations, even when working only in English initially.
